But this longing was always going to carry immense risk, and that the fundamental choice God made was to say, ‘I am going to carry the consequences of that risk and I am not going to expect humanity to shoulder a burden it cannot bear.’ In other words however much we have refused God’s invitation to be with us it has always remained an invitation and not an imposition, and the cost of restoration and reconciliation is something that God has borne, not us.
I believe that the longing to be with us in Jesus was the reason God created the world.
